Just stand on the beach on a clear day and look towards the horizon.

Message: As it is well known to most intelligent people that the earth is flat, your question is soooo stupid you Peach tart. I personally have seen ships falling of the edge of the earth; so I know!
On the other hand, taking the measurement variances associated with visual and haptic estimations, the most accurate distance should be 55 mtr.

Message: We can see the horizon of the ocean at 17 miles if we take the circumference of earth at the equator (24,902) 360 degrees and 17 miles, we can figure out the curvature of the earth over 17 miles (at equator) (360 / 24,902) *17 = 0.245763392 so you are looking at about .3 degree curve over 17 miles of the horizon, you see that it is not a straight line sitting on the coast of the gulf looking at the horizon, you really can see the curve of the earth, its definitely a pretty cool feeling

(360 / 24,902) *17 = 0.245763392 Melktart wants to know the height, not the distance.
And forget about the curve, with the earth being a circular pie like thing, it curves all the way.

We from the Flat Earth Society are not taking lightly to sarcasm or unfounded criticism.
If the earth would be a ball like thing, going 55 meter up would show up the curve at the horizon. As the earth is flat however, this is entirely hypothetical.

Message: Southern Ontario must be the home of the Flat Earth Society. It is also a great place to cycle as there are few hills on the plains around the Great Lakes.
I would have said that 22km is about as far as you can see things on the horizon.
We can see the tall buildings near the Toronto waterfront from the piers at the lift bridge in Burlington.

Message: Thank you Pam, any support is very welcome.
Have you ever seen anyone disappearing in to the distance and then falling off on the edge?
I often have been very close myself, but always to scared to step on the edge, if you know what I mean?
Don’t forget, it was the height that was asked – not the distance.

Message: I know you asked the height - well - if you have almost stepped off the edge of the world - you must be tall enough to see the curve of the horizon . . .
Try lying down - you would see the world as flat and therefore not ask the question.

Message: Pam. You are becoming irritating. What is this infatuation with horizon? The Earth is flat and the edge is “Space”!
You don’t get it, do you?
Don’t apply to our Society for membership you ignorant witch.
By the way, if the earth was a ball, why would no one know the answer Apfelstrudel had asked?
