Kalk Bay

Kalk Bay

A delightful fishing village on the False Bay coast with a protected little harbour full of brightly painted wooden boats. Go at around 1pm to watch the fishermen offload their catch and you can buy your supper straight from the boat. The Kalk Bay Harbour is a colorful place of small fishing boats and fresh fish being sold from the outdoor market. The ladies cleaning the fish are happy to part with their favorite recipes. The narrow main street is renowned for antique and art shops which make fascinating browsing and the well known Brass Bell restaurant and bar is as close as you can get to the breakers without going for a swim. Boyes Drive takes you up onto the hillside for wonderful views of the harbor and in these hills lurk deep caverns and caves with a labyrinth of passages and chambers that are said to be haunted.
Kalk Bay Main Road is an interesting combination of deli´s, restaurants, bars, antique stores, second-hand bookshops, fashion boutiques, jewellers, tatoo studios, craft shops, interior & furniture stores and art galleries. Explore the interesting lanes for delightful discoveries. During whale season you will want to keep an eye on the ocean as you will most likely spot some southern right whales in the bay, or walk up to Boyes Drive for an even better bird’s eye view.
