Harris Fine Art

Contemporary painting, drawing and sculpture. The artist’s work always been motivated by nature - from microscopic to panoramic. His latest work has its essence in the Karoo and Richtersveld landscape, although it has no reference to specific place or time.

Mankind or his flotsam is seldom represented. Harris taught art at Port Shepstone High, Glenwood High School and ML Sultan Technikon (now Durban University of Technology) from 1977 to 1984. Harris then stopped teaching and moved to Johannesburg to pursue a career in commerce and industry.

In 1987 he moved to Cape Town and over the next ten years opened and managed six successful businesses (including two Art Galleries) and sold the last business in 1997 to resume art on a full time basis. First major exhibition in 1978 at Walsh Marais Gallery, Durban. In the new series of work titled "Mapping" and "Mapping Boundaries", Harris conceptually explores land issues: social geography, political, culture and cultural identity. His last exhibitions and personal event is "Beyond the Surface" Solo Exhibition, Ron Belling Gallery, Port Elizabeth in 2009. Current work can be viewed at the following Galleries:
