At SAA, we recognize our responsibility to our planet and as the "greenest" local carrier we are constantly striving to identify and implement new initiatives to minimize our environmental impact.
We support industry efforts such as the call from the IATA (International Air Transport Association) for voluntary commitment from member airlines to increase fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. Based on their checklist for greener operations, we already have an 80% compliance. We are looking at more ways to improve our ground and flight operations so that we can up that percentage. A body responsible for implementing the most effective solutions around these issues. We are also in ongoing discussions with aviation partner, Air Transport Navigational Services (ATNS), on how traffic control procedures can contribute towards improved efficiencies.
We operate one of the youngest, most efficient fleets in the world. The average age of our planes is 5 years. We invest in the latest technology to ensure greater fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, particularly of carbon and nitrous oxide. Plans are in place to further modernize our existing fleet.
