For centuries the Klein Karoo has used donkeys to move around, shifting people and produce between farm and town. For a (rather bone-jarring) experience you can charter a ‘donkey taxi’ at the official hitching post outside the tourism office in De Rust. Prices are negotiable, but expect to pay about R15-R20 for a short ride out of town and back.
