Consistency is the real star of this gloriously homely eatery on a quiet street in one of the prettiest villages. Owner-chef Mariana Esterhuizen conjures up dishes that sing with seasonal freshness and simplicity -you can taste every ingredient. Yet this deliciously unfussy food never lacks in sophistication, especially when matched with a small but focused wine list and warm, attentive service. Lunches are frequently convivial, long affairs.
Calling all foodies … This multi-award winning, intimate country eatery is all about provenance; much of the organic ingredients owners Mariana and Pieter Esterhuysen grow are cooked to perfection by Mariana while you’ll find local cheeses, meats and wine on the seasonal menu too. A charming rustic interior complete with school- house tables and chairs and mismatched crockery and heavy handled cutlery awaits – your host is Peter and he’ll talk you through what’s on the menu for the day. If you’re lucky you’ll have an opportunity to try one of Mariana’s bredies or perhaps her impossibly light gorgonzola mousse. Whatever it is you choose you’re guaranteed a memorable flavour fest. Sadly no kids under the age of 10.
