To create a housing institution that is unique in its ability and effectiveness in providing mass, affordable, well managed rental housing on a sustainable basis.
The Witbank project is one of the first three Presidential Job Summit Pilot Projects on Rental Housing. The project on completion should consist of 5 000 housing units, primary and secondary schools, community facilities and commercial centres. Approximately one quarter (1 250) of the units will be for sale while the remainder will be rental stock and targeted at households earning less than R7 500 per month. Building works began in 2003 and phase one of the project was opened by the Honorable Mr Thabo Mbeki on 30 September 2004. 920 have been satisfactorily completed and are leased out.
Provide and manage affordable rental housing as an alternative housing option to individuals and families within the Emalahleni community who are willing to commit to a structured rental schedule on the basis of ‘perceived value for money’. By way of capacity building within the Institution’s staff structure and the resident community serve the core belief that in the provision of the above, a sense of community identity will be fostered.
In keeping with the ‘Breaking New Ground’ government initiative it is our intention to ensure that we provide quality and affordable housing to the residents of Emalahleni.
Rental of housing units ranging from one- to three bedroomed (30 to 57m2); maintenance of the units and grounds; provision of basic services such as electricity, water, refuse removal, etc.
