Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA)

The Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA) was formed through a merger of the Mpumalanga Economic Empowerment Corporation and the Mpumalanga Investment Initiative. The merger was promulgated in phases to facilitate a smooth transition to the new legal entity. MEGA became fully operational and commenced its business activities on 1 April 2006, and is accountable to the Mpumalanga Department of Economic Development and Planning. As the official trade and investment promotion, enterprise development and property management arm of the provincial government of Mpumalanga, MEGA’s objective is to provide a onestop development service to business and potential investors alike. Through the Trade and Investment Division, the agency provides a variety of services to potential investors and trading partners.

Trade and Investment Division:

• The Trade and Investment Division of MEGA offers a wide variety of services. Investment services offered by the division include:
• Facilitating joint ventures through the identification of local partners
• Assisting in identifying appropriate locations in the province
• Assisting with negotiating and securing office and factory premises from local authorities or private owners
• Advising on commercial statutory requirements
• Assisting with company formation and registration with the Department of Trade and Industry
• Introducing and assisting with the opening of bank accounts
• Facilitating finance through local institutions
• Providing assistance to obtain business visas, work permits and temporary residence from the Department of Home Affairs
• Assisting and advising with the shipment of machinery
• Assisting with the completion and lodging of investment incentive claims with the Department of Trade and Industry
• Assisting in identifying potential suppliers of raw materials and feedstock
• Assisting with developing the local and foreign market through various trade agreements and protocols such as the SACU Trade Agreement, SADC Trade Protocol, SA/EU Trade Agreement and AGOA
