Description of main services:

  • The District Health System deals with: health promotion, tuberculosis, malaria, comprehensive HIV and Aids management and treatment, expanded programme on immunisation, integrated nutrition programme, chronic and geriatric, rehabilitation services and material, Child, Woman and Youth Programme – maternal health, child death and women’s health
  • A way of delivering health services to the people, particularly to those living in poverty
  • The District Health System serves as the vehicle for the delivery of primary healthcare services
  • Hospital Services deals with: pharmaceutical services, forensic pathology services, E-Health, eye-care programme and improving quality of care and emergency medical services Social services.

Social services:

  • Poverty Alleviation Programme: Services to youth, women and adults in impoverished communities
  • National Food Emergency Programme: Community based Services: National Food Emergency Programme for poor individuals and families
  • Social relief of distress: A temporary provision of assistance intended for persons in such dire material need that they are unable to meet their or their families’ needs
  • Women and children: Services to victims of domestic violence – women, children and youth who are victims of violence. Community-based Care for HIV and Aids: Enables the individual and family to have access to services nearest to home, which encourages participation by people, responds to the needs of people, encourages traditional community life and strengthens mutual aid opportunities and social responsibilities
