Lyndi Sales

Cape Town artist Lyndi Sales cultivates creativity as a careen, so it’s no wonder that it spills over from her Observatory studio into the interior spaces of her home, ‘As a child I invested much time in decorating my room / she reminisces. “My personal surrounds are my sanctuary.” And that is precisely what she has made of the Rosebank house she shares with her photographer husband, David Bloomer, and their 18-month-old son, Raphael.

The sunny space is organised as much around the inquisitive toddler as it is around her admirable collection of artworks - some of them the couple’s personal creations, many of them swaps within an extensive community of artist friends. Aside from such treasures, her home - a rich blend of past and present - abounds with market furniture finds, bags, silverware, silks and saris from her travels, and a multitude of inherited collectables from a grandmother whose hobby it was to hoard, “I prefer one-off items that have a history, an interesting story to tell,’ she says of her decor. ‘When my house starts looking too commercial, I know it’s time for a change.
