Koopmans de Wet House

Wedged between skyscrapers in the cacophony of Strand Street, this elegant structure is South Africa’s old est house museum and shows you what life was like if you were well to do in the 18th century. The collection of gleaming silverware and Cape furniture studded through the house belonged to its last owner, a well-read, wealthy socialite called Marie Koopmans-De Wet, a portrait of whom can be seen in one of the upstairs bedrooms.

Hours: 10.00am-5.00pm, Tue-Thurs

Fee: R10 adults; R5 pensioners, students; free under-16s.
