Reference library

The South African National Gallery Library has unique references on South African art: a collection of newspaper cuttings dating back to 1904; a comprehensive pamphlet collection from the turn of the century. We also have an extensive range of international journals and books.

The collection boasts: books & journals, newspaper clippings since 1904, DVDs, CDs & videos, art boxes for scholars, students and academics, a comprehensive pamphlet collection from the turn of the century, exhibition invitations, postcards and exhibition catalogs.

In line with museum policy, the Library develops projects to make its resources available to as many people in the community as possible.

The Library is open to the public, by appointment, from Tuesday to Friday 8:30 to 13:00, and 14:00 to 16:00.
